EXPLANATION :

1. Bootloader Version

The iPhone EDGE has two bootloaders

  • 3.9 which is the oldest bootloader and was used on FW 1.1.x
  • 4.6 the latest bootloader used on the new firmwares

2. Neuter

A bootloader that uses the Neuter, allows us to have full control over our baseband. So all the restrictions applied by the bootloader are gone.

3. FakeBlank

All the iPhone hackers, want to be able to run a series of payloads directly in the rebooting process. They can use BootNeuter and choose to activate the FakaBank Bootloader.

4. Unlocking

BootNeuter lets us unlock the baseband. Basically this will unlock your iPhone EDGE, so make sure you turn it ON.

NOTE: DO NOT interrupt the flashing process. It may take a while.

NOTE:IF you need to restore your iDevice in order to update to 3.1.2 or you just want to restore, DO NOT restore from backups. Set the iPhone as a new device.

  • RedSn0w 0.9 beta 3 [ Mac or Windows ]
  • Firmware 3.1.2 [ iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3Gs, iPod Touch , iPod Touch 2G ] (Google for “Download OS 3.1.2 for iPod Touch 2G”)

  • Make sure iTunes is up to date, and restore your iDevice with 3.1.2 FW.
  • Load RedSn0w and browse for the 3.1.2 firmware you downloaded and placed in a folder on your desktop
  • RedSn0w will check if you chose the correct firmware ( IPSW ) and it will start patching it
  • This step is for iPhone 2G ONLY! Otherwise , skip this step. If you also want to unlock your iPhone 2G, select “Cydia” and “Unlock” . Now attach the two bootloaders. If you just want to jailbreak your iPhone, skip this.

  • Connect your iPhone, and follow the steps on the screen to put your iDevice in DFU mode.
  • Your iDevice will reboot and now you got a fully functional jailbroken iDevice.

You don’t necessarily need one of the upcoming smartphones with 3D displays in order to get a 3D-like effect from your phone, at least not if you check out the upcoming 3DBoard app for jailbroken iPhones.

While most people associate a 3D display with the stereoscopic illusion of depth, just as key is the ability to see “around” objects when shifting your point of view. Typical 3D display setups don’t bother with this aspect of vision, as it would require elaborate head-tracking, wouldn’t be suitable for pre-rendered content like movies, and wouldn’t support more than one viewer per screen. On the flip side, all those caveats start to disappear when you’re dealing with something the size of a smartphone; the Nintendo DSi title Looksley’s Line Up is a prime example of making it work.

3DBoard uses your iPhone’s sensors, rather than head tracking, to estimate the phone’s orientation in regards to your eyes. With this information it can pull off a subtle but impressive effect, shifting the icons on the phone’s home screen ever so slightly in relation to the background, making it appear as if they float just over it. Someone else using your phone may not even notice what’s changed at first glance, aside from a feeling that your iPhone just looks different from any other they’ve ever used.

Author Apocolipse is finishing up work on this tech demo now, and expects to add 3DBoard to Cydia’s jailbroken app store in the near future.

Since the launch of the version 4 back in August, the new Digg has been getting minor over-hauls time and again. One of the main reasons of the frequent changes is to bring back the user experience to the Digg community. Even though, the team at Digg did many mistakes which resulted in losing user-base, I still credit them a lot for the amount of efforts they are putting in to bring the community back.

They have been adding features ranging from upcoming to bury button, everything has been added as per the user request. They have also been tweaking up the design since then. When I logged onto Digg today, I found an invitation to view the new design. Clicking on that, I realized, the new design is even simpler.

Two of the things I loved about Digg v4 when it launched were the simplicity of design and speed of the site, but that at the cost of cutting almost all the features. Digg v4, however, after 6 months, looks very promising. It has all the features that diggers need, a better design than v3, faster to browse, lesser errors and an over-all better user-experience. The new design is only rolled out yet to 15 percent Digg users and will be soon rolled out to everyone else.

Digg team on the official Digg blog said

This new design includes a new way to browse between the different sections of the site and an easier way to filter your content. We’ve simplified the design to make stories more prominent and easier to read. The newly organized profile page makes it a snap to see all your statistics. And last but not least, a new submission flow makes submitting stories easier. We couldn’t wait any longer to share these with our users and gather feedback before a public rollout, but there’s still a lot of work to be done.

Even though the design has been built on the user feedback, Digg still allows you to switch between the designs. Apart from the re-design, Digg has finally been able to import all the user-stats from v3, which took much longer than expected.
